Welcome. Make yourself at home.

New Blooms.

New Blooms.

This is the part of the year where I want to do everything and nothing, all at the same time.

I feel like I've capped off at what I can do and learn as a student, and want to just be a resident already. And yet I want to do absolutely nothing with myself #slothmode. I'm 8 shifts away from being done with medical school, 6 of them night shifts. 100 hours. So. Close. I can almost taste it.

I'm working in a level 2 trauma center for my emergency medicine rotation, day 5 of 7 straight. Just today, we had 3 central lines, 2 codes, 6 traumas, and lots of critically ill patients. I ran into 2 of the surgery residents, one of whom really encouraged me to pursue surgery when I rotated. It's pretty cool being back a year and a half later, matched in surgery myself (p.s. I miss the OR). But, I did get to perform my first paracentesis the other day.

These trees are blooming all over town... into a new season, in more ways than one. I think God does a lot of pruning in times like these, moments where you feel like you're just surviving but He gives you the energy to do it and works so much behind the scenes to build for what is to come. Sometimes I am just floored by the beauty of God's intricate plan for each of us. Some of that pruning means tests and losses ... but even though the comfort zone is a wonderful place, nothing ever grows there.

The issue is not simply how much we have or don't have; the issue is what we do with what we have - and why we do what we do. I truly believe we are blessed to be a blessing to others (Genesis 12:2-3). I pray I can be even a little bit of a blessing to anyone.

Some good reminders...

1. Know that you are good enough. Seriously, you are enough.

2. Believe you can do it, and believe you'll make it.

3. Choose to be grateful when you feel like complaining.

4. Choose to hang in there when you feel you've had enough.

5. When tired, learn to rest instead of quit.

6. Value others and treat them well.

7. Invest in people instead of chasing things.

But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness. Matthew 6:23
