Hi.

Welcome. Make yourself at home.

5 Ways to Improve Focus

5 Ways to Improve Focus

1. Make the to-do list. Just do it.

Writing everything you could possibly think of (yes, even clean the toilet) and organize it by priority: what needs to be done today, by the end of the week, etc. When you have an allotted time for all tasks, your brain won't be all over the place. More importantly, your brain won't make you go clean the toilet when you should be studying. But, you can do other tasks in between studying to take a break and feel like you're getting more done. Then I usually pick either the most simple/easy thing to finish (cross it off the list), or the task that will take the longest (get it over with).

2. Guzzle water.

A lot of the times I feel fatigued or hungry, I'm actually just dehydrated. Especially if you also drink caffeine/coffee, you'll need to drink plenty of water to balance it out. Your daily water requirement is higher than you think: click here to find out.

3. Pick 1 thing a day to do that makes you happy.

It might be to practice the guitar, get dinner with a friend, or to read a few pages of a book. Less time on the schedule puts a little motivational pressure to finish your tasks of the day. Just make sure it's a manageable period of time and you don't lose your focus on tasks at hand, thinking of the future.

4. Be mindful.

Take time to pause and slow down. Whether that's through sitting outside in nature, prayer, meditation, or simply taking 5 deep breaths and noticing the trees outside - better yet, going outside for 10 minutes. I often have trouble falling asleep if that's the only time I've allowed myself to not be thinking or doing something during the day. Because that's when your brain decides to run through all the other noise.

5. Exercise - you knew this one was coming.

Sweating it out, even through small workouts, helps like a reset button. Endorphins and getting your heart rate up are a great way to take a break from the constant go-go-go of the day. I love apps like Emily Skye Active Pop Sugar that give you free daily workouts. You can find plenty of free youtube channels too - make sure to do a rotating combination of yoga, weights, and cardio.
